  The Law of Lawyering


The lawyers in this practice group are among the foremost practitioners in Colorado, with extraordinary breadth and depth of experience. They are truly "lawyers' lawyers." They advise lawyers, law firms and bar applicants on a wide variety of matters involving legal ethics, professional responsibility, and risk management. Additionally, they represent lawyers in disciplinary investigations by the Office of Attorney Regulation Counsel of the Colorado Supreme Court and in formal disciplinary proceedings before the Presiding Disciplinary Judge of the Colorado Supreme Court. They represent applicants for admission to the Colorado Bar. They also serve as consulting and testifying experts in courts and arbitration throughout Colorado in matters involving legal ethics, standards of conduct of lawyers, and attorneys' fees. Finally, they assist organizations with in-house investigations.

Rich Hennessey was the first Committee Counsel for the Grievance Committee of the Colorado Supreme Court, the predecessor to the Office of Attorney Regulation Counsel, from 1974 to 1979, served on that Committee from 1981 to 1986, and was Chairman in 1986; the Colorado Supreme Court Committee to Examine the Code of Judicial Conduct from 1986 to 1988; the Joint Committee of the Colorado Supreme Court and the Colorado Bar Association on the Rules of Professional Conduct from 1988 to 1992; and the Ethics Committee of the Colorado Bar Association from 1974 to the present and was Chairman from 1993 to 1994. In 2007, Rich received the Don Sears Award from the Ethics Committee of the Colorado Bar Association for his career contribution to the enhancement of legal ethics in Colorado.

Cecil Morris has served on Committee on the Colorado Supreme Court Standing Committee on the Rules of Professional Conduct from 2003 to the present; the Colorado Committee on ABA Ethics 2000 and the Colorado Rules of Professional Conduct from 2002 to 2004; the Conduct Committee of the United States District Court for the District of Colorado from 2005 to the present; and the Ethics Committee of the Colorado Bar Association from 1995 to the present and was Chairman from 2004 to 2005.

Dan Muse served as City Attorney for the City and County of Denver from 1991 and 2000. In that position, Dan was a member of and served as Legal Counsel to the City and County of Denver Ethics Board, where he interpreted its Ethics Code, analyzed conflicts and conducted related investigations, and drafted Ethics Opinions. Dan was also a member of the Supreme Court Board of Law Examiners from 1987 to 1992. Mr. Muse is currently a member of the Colorado Bar Association Ethics Committee.
